An Altoona woman has been charged after police say a toddler was left in a hot vehicle.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, at about 5 p.m. Friday, 28-year-old Anna Stern entered a Dollar General store along North 4th Avenue in Altoona and left the toddler in the vehicle.
While she was shopping, a man had entered the store and was shouting for whoever left the child in the vehicle.
According to the affidavit, after Stern spoke with the man, she chose items from her shopping cart that she deemed more important, and then headed to the checkout.
At about 5:13 p.m., Stern left the store and took the toddler from a woman who removed the child from the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
Police note that the child was “saturated” with sweat when an officer arrived, and that it was 76 degrees outside of the vehicle.
Police also note that the vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.
Stern has been charged with third-degree felony endangering the welfare of children, second-degree misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person and two summary offenses.
She was arraigned Friday before District Judge Matthew Dunio, of Altoona, and was sent to the Blair County Prison in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 13 before District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio, of Altoona.
An online court docket did not list an attorney for Stern Tuesday afternoon.
