Democrats in 'full-blown freakout' mode over 2024 election, report says

A “full-blown freakout." That’s how Democrats are describing how they feel about President Joe Biden’s re-election chances according to Politico.

Poor polling numbers for Biden and a strong fundraising month for former President Donald Trump are just two of the reasons White House advisors said they’re souring on Biden’s re-election chances.

Recent polling shows Biden struggling in swing states. Meanwhile, Trump brought the battle to deep blue strongholds in New Jersey and New York as surveys show Black and Hispanic voters moving a little more to the right.

Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville’s message to his party was blunt while speaking on his "Politicon" podcast.

We keep wondering why these young people aren’t coming home to the Democrats. Why Blacks aren’t coming home to the Democrats. Because Democratic messaging is full of s**t,” Carville said.

The "Ragin' Cajun" said his party is focusing too much on the Israel-Hamas war and not enough on the economic squeeze on families.

“Talk about cost of living and we’re going to help deal with this. Don’t talk about f'ing Gaza and student loans!" he said.

A Guardian/Harris poll last week showed a majority of Americans think the U.S. is in a recession and blame the president for it. There isn’t a recession right now with the economy growing, but inflation and the high cost of living have been stubborn and hitting Americans in the wallet. Some Democrats said they need to get the word out.

“I saw the polling this week that were Americans, a majority think we're in recession. We're not, we have the strongest economy in the world. I think we have to do a better job and I think the president is doing all he can and this is where folks like myself can help," said Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn.

The Wall Street Journal reports some aides are encouraging the President to be more sympathetic of the economy instead of painting a rosy picture that many Americans don’t feel is accurate. It could end up being the deciding issue in November.
