James Gandolfini rose to fame for his role as Tony Soprano, an Italian-American crime lord in the HBO television series, ‘The Sopranos’. This role earned him three Emmy awards, three Screen Actors Guild awards and a Golden Globe award. Among the other roles that distinguished him, he was Virgil in “True Romance” (1993), Lieutenant Bobby Dougherty in “Crimson Tide” (1995) and the mayor of New York in “The Taking of Pelham 123” ( “The Capture of Pelham 123”). 2009).

James was raised a devout Catholic and spoke Italian at home. Due to the influence of his parents, he developed a very strong sense of Italian-American identity. It is said that his parents and his two sisters often took him to Italy.

Regarding his education, James graduated from Park Ridge High School, New Jersey in 1979. There he played basketball and also acted in plays. It was given the title “Flirt Class” in its senior yearbook. For his college education, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Rutgers University in 1982. While in college, he worked as a bouncer at a pub on campus. After graduating, James worked as a bartender and club administrator in Manhattan. Subsequently, he studied acting under Kathryn Gately at the Gately Poole Conservatory for two years.

His career

James Gandolfini put up excellent performance in a 1992 Broadway production titled “Waterfront.” This opened many doors for him in the acting world as he began to land roles, including being a brutal mob enforcer in the 1993 romantic thriller, “Virgil.” In 1994, he played the role of Ben Pink in the action movie “Terminal Velocity”.

The following year, he appeared in the blockbuster “Crimson Tide” and later took on the role of a bearded former stuntman with a southern accent in “Get Shorty”. James Gandolfini starred alongside Demi Moore and Alec Baldwin in the crime crime drama “The Juror.” His last two films were “Enough Said”, a romantic comedy where he starred alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the detective film “The Drop”. James was slated to star in the miniseries, “The Night Of,” but died before filming began.

After his separation from his first wife Marcy, James began dating Deborah Lin, a former model and actress. As a couple, they walked down the aisle in August 2008. Deborah gave birth to their daughter, Liliana Ruth Gandolfini, in October 2012.

James weighed 124kg (275lbs), coupled with a height of 1.85m which gave him a rather intimidating appearance to those around him. His body structure made him very suitable for crime-related roles. Also, his eyes were dark brown in color, as was his hair.

Cause of death

Shortly after a day of sightseeing with his family, James Gandolfini was found unconscious in the bathroom by his son Michael around 10 p.m. local time. He was then taken to hospital at 10:40 p.m., where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.

An autopsy was then performed and it was confirmed that he had died of a myocardial infarction, also known as a heart attack. James Gandolfini has died aged 51.
