EASLEY, S.C. (WLOS) — A police officer from Upstate South Carolina has tragically passed away after being killed in the line of duty Wednesday morning.
A press release from the Pickens County Coroner's Office says 22-year-old Matthew Logan Hare with the Easley Police Department was responding along with another officer to an area of train tracks on Allen Street.
Police said the two were responding to a report of "a suicidal subject on the tracks," according to the coroner's office.
While trying to get the person off of the tracks, officials said Officer Hare was struck and killed by the train.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for a later date.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and Pickens County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident.
