UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Organizations at Penn State have kicked off LGBTQ Pride Month. Tuesday's events were known as "the hub take over."
Outside of the events scheduled for the day, there were also information booths at the hub that cater to the LGBTQ community on campus.
Organizers said the goal of this event is to raise awareness about the LGBTQ community and to make sure they are accepted.
"We want our students to know that the university is here to support them. Administration and staff alike are here to support our students who are differently identifying, and we want to make sure that we have an inclusive and welcoming campus environment," said Shannon Dehoff, of the Penn State Gender Equity.
They said there will be many Pride Month events throughout April on the University Park campus.
Pride Month is recognized nationally in June, but Penn State is observing it this month.
