Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County have charged a Berlin man after he was accused of raping an unconscious woman at his home.
Troopers say Christopher Crites, 49, faces charges of rape of an unconscious victim, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault, according to online court documents.
Investigators say on August 21 of last year, troopers received a report of a sexual assault in which the victim claimed that she had been raped by Crites.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told investigators that she had been out drinking with friends the night before and had woke up the next morning, "confused and sore," and was laying next to a naked man on a couch in a house that she was unfamiliar with.
Police say that man was later identified as Crites and the woman noted that she believed that "something had happened to her."
Upon further investigation, authorities say they interviewed multiple witnesses who told police that the woman had become extremely drunk and that Crites, and his wife, had allegedly offered to take her home to their residence.
Police say one of the witnesses, a friend of the victim, had allegedly insisted on taking her home himself but, according to the affidavit, Crites told him that he (the friend) could not be trusted and Crites allegedly accused the friend of wanting to take advantage of the victim.
According to witness statements, police say the victim was asleep when they left the Crites' residence.
Crites was arraigned earlier this month, court dockets show, and has since been released on unsecured $25,000 bail.
